Google has announced the appointment of Preeti Lobana as India's new vice president and country manager. Preeti Lobana, a seasoned Google veteran with eight years of experience as Vice President of customer-centric solutions, will now spearhead Google India's operations and sales, reaffirming the company’s commitment to India's rapidly evolving digital economy. Preeti Lobana steps into this role at a pivotal time, succeeding Sanjay Gupta, who was recently promoted to President of the Asia Pacific region. Her leadership is expected to be instrumental in advancing Google’s vision of harnessing AI’s transformative potential to foster innovation and enable digital inclusion across India.
“With AI poised to redefine the boundaries of what’s possible, I am incredibly excited to welcome my colleague, Preeti, as our new Country Manager,” Sanjay Gupta said. “Her leadership and passion for customer-centricity has fueled impactful solutions for businesses across industries, empowering millions to thrive in the digital age.”
Preeti Lobana brings over three decades of senior leadership experience in the technology and finance sectors. Prior to this role, she led a global team as Vice President, gTech-Process, Partner, Publisher Operations, Ads Content & Quality Operations, where she oversaw the development of innovative ad solutions and provided critical support to Google’s partners and customers worldwide. Speaking on Preeti Lobana’s appointment, Sanjay Gupta added, “Preeti’s leadership will be instrumental as we deepen our engagement with India’s unique ecosystem. Leveraging AI advancements like Gemini 2.0, we aim to accelerate digital inclusion and unlock unprecedented economic opportunities for every Indian. I am confident that her deep market expertise will guide us in shaping a future where technology truly benefits all.”
Preeti Lobana will work closely with Roma Datta Chobey, who served as the interim Country Manager and will continue in her role as Managing Director for Google India's Digital Native Industries. This collaborative leadership marks a significant phase for Google India as it further integrates cutting-edge AI solutions to meet the needs of businesses and users alike. Preeti Lobana’s appointment comes at a crucial time for Google, as India remains one of its most significant international markets. The tech giant has made considerable investments in digitizing the country’s economy and supporting local businesses. However, Google also faces ongoing scrutiny in India, particularly due to antitrust challenges. The company remains entangled in high-profile cases, including the Android Ecosystem Case, where the Competition Commission of India (CCI) imposed fines over alleged abuse of dominance, citing mandatory pre-installation of proprietary apps like YouTube, Chrome, and Google Search on Android devices.
Despite these challenges, Preeti Lobana’s leadership promises a renewed focus on AI-driven innovation and digital expansion. As Google continues its mission to enable businesses and individuals to leverage technology for growth, her vision and expertise will be pivotal in navigating India’s dynamic digital landscape.
